Minorities and Women in Business Enterprises

Since its founding, Borrell Electric Co., Inc. has been a strong supporter of minority business enterprises. We have experienced three generations of minorities serving in an executive position since our establishment. The company was found in 1947, by Anthony J. Borrell, a Cuban immigrant. He later passed his company along to his son, Anthony Borrell Jr., who was a second generation minority. In 2004, Borrell Jr. sold the company to two of its employees: Jim Smith and Carlos Menendez. Menendez was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States in 1962, at the age of two. He now serves as Borrell Electric Co., Inc.'s Vice President and minority owner.
Not only is minority participation evident in the executive positions, but Borrell Electric Co., Inc. also has employees with minority status in upper and middle-level management, field supervision, and other field personnel. Borrell Electric has also helped develop an MBE(MINBE, inc.). MINBE is currently certified as a wholesale supplier, and is a certified electrical contractor. Skanska USA Building is currently fostering Borrell Electric's development of MINBE. MINBE's first contract was awarded by Skanska USA Building to provide tenant electrical work for its southern division. It has also received a contract to supply material for the EEE School in Pasco County.
At Borrell Electric Co., Inc., we take pride in offering opportunities to everyone. Virtually all of our major projects require MBE participation and we have been 100% successful at achieving all minority participation goals. Our employees currently consist of 15% African-American, 42% Hispanic, and 43% Caucasian. This ratio is far and away skewed in favor of minorities when compared to the general population. Based on our record, it is clear that Borrell Electric Co., Inc. employs and trains minority workers, and encourages Minority and Women in Business Enterprises.
