James W. Smith

President, Borrell Electric

James Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Illinois State University in 1980. His master thesis work was also performed at ISU and was completed in 1983. During his educational career he received many honors and was funded by full academic scholarship.

James began his professional career as a Field Engineer for H.P. Foley at a Nuclear Power Facility. In 1984 he worked for L.K. Comstock as a Field Engineer. He was promoted to Director of Engineer Training in 1986. Later that year James joined Huen Electric Inc. as Project Manager/Estimator. There he was responsible for design, estimating and management of several multi-million dollar projects.

In 1989 James joined Borrell Electric Co., Inc. as Chief Estimator. He was responsible for design build and plan/specification estimates and supervision of the Estimating Department. He has designed, successfully estimated, negotiated and managed projects over 18 million dollars while at Borrell Electric Co., Inc.

James is currently the Owner and President of Borrell Electric Co., Inc. He is responsible for directing operations, estimating, and marketing for Borrell Electric Co., Inc.

James is a State Certified Electrical Contractor (EC 13002978). He served on the Board of Directors of The American Subcontractors Association. He also supports the Electrical Council of Florida and the Associated Builders and Contractors Association (ABC). Jim is a member of the International Association of Electric Estimators, the National Electrical Testing Association, the Coastal Conservation Association, and Ducks Unlimited.
