John Griffith

Assistant Project Manager
John was born in Norristown Pennsylvania. Three months after his birth, his parents returned to their home in Tampa where he now resides. He graduated from Leto High School in 1984, and attended the University of South Florida.
While attending USF, John was selected by Tampa Electric Company to participate in their co-op program from 1985-1987. After working from 1987-1990, as Customer Service Manager for Alan Scott Haft and Associates, a pre-employment screening agency, John accepted a full-time position with TECo in Distribution Engineering. He continued to work at TECo until October 2007, when he was employed by Borrell Electric Co., Inc. John is also a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Captain, and holds a Master-Inland, Mate-Near Coastal Merchant Mariner’s license.
During John’s 17 year employment with Tampa Electric Company, he became an expert in both overhead and underground distribution engineering. He has graduated from Power Pros Utility Field Engineering School, and in 1995, graduated from GE Lighting School in Asheville, North Carolina. John was a Senior Field Engineer, and involved in project management of various projects including master subdivision communities such as Oak Creek Subdivision, and major business parks such as Broadway One Business Park. He was also one of a very few in his position to engineer and manage Capital System Expansion projects which involved taking new distribution circuits out of substations to meet load forecast demands. Performance on this level necessitated that he be very familiar with Roadway Use Permitting, M.O.T. use, GE’s Aladdin lighting software, POLE FOREMAN wind-loading software, Power Monitoring Devices power quality software, the NESC, TECo’s General Rules and Specifications, and all of its work management systems. His expertise in the areas afore-mentioned, road widening projects, various commercial and residential construction projects, area and roadway illumination design, and power quality monitoring and resolution. He was also responsible for new construction at Tampa International Airport for TECo’s Western Service Area.
John has recently utilized his distribution engineering experience at Borrell Electric Company, Inc. managing the 15KV Conversion project at the University of Tampa along with various smaller distribution-type jobs. He is also currently an Assistant Project Manager at Sarasota Memorial Hospital Central Energy Plant.
